Carnivores

Feb 24, 2009

Saturday night we had dinner with Jennie Breeden; yes of Devil’s Panties. She was in town to attend a local con; Conflation. Jon and I were not attending, though they kindly had invited us, but schedule is full again, and we just couldn’t fit an entire weekend at a con into it. We offered to whisk Jennie away from her duties as Guest of Honor, to take her out for good food, and company where she didn’t have to be “on”. Since she’s as big a carnivore as we are, we took her to Citizen Kane’s Steak house in Kirkwood. Best steaks in town, plus good salads, and veggies. Jon and I are particularly fond of the almond green beans and the barley beef stew. But it’s the steak you come for, not getting the steak is like going to England and not having afternoon tea.

We had a wait, even with reservations, but that just gave us all more time to visit. We’d also invited Charles to come along since he met her at Dragon*Con, and ComicCon, too. The four of us had wonderful food, fun conversation, and just relaxed. Yet another triumph for my new vow to do things I want to do, not just the things I have to do.

We dropped her back at the hotel late, having stayed talking at our table until the wait staff began to get impatient, but with a thirty minute wait before we were able to sit down, we didn’t feel that bad about it. This was the longest wait we’d ever had; don’t know why it was so packed. But we got Jennie back after the dance she was supposed to be at was in progress. Sorry Conflation people. We actually arrived just as they were starting the Virgin auction. What’s that? I had to ask, too. You auction people off who are first time Conflation goers. What happens after the auction and what does your bid by you? You know I’m not sure, I forgot to ask that. Hmm. I’ll ask Jennie later, when she explains I’ll blog what she said. She was getting auctioned, too, since it was her first time at this con, too. Technically it was a first for Jon and me, too, but we weren’t attending the con so it doesn’t count. We said good-bye to Jennie and left her to her GOH duties. Charles walked us out to our car, then went back inside to prowl the con. The crowd had re-energized him, so he went back to enjoy it. Jon and I went home to a warm bed and a warm us. If we’re re-energized it usually turns to something a little more private than public. Though Conflation is an adult relax-a-con, so I’m a little fuzzy on what that means, so maybe private and public are a little confused at a con like that. I honestly don’t know.
