Dead Ice: Zerbrowski

May 21, 2015

Here’s the next blog in the series leading up to Dead Ice. I thought I’d leave the leading men behind and go to one of my favorite supporting characters, Zerbrowski.

Question: What is Zerbrowski’s first name?

Answer: Sorry, but he’s keeping that secret a bit longer. He considers it pretty awful though.
Secrets to share: He’s Sergeant Zerbrowski now, moving up the chain of command, but he’s still making wisecracks and being Anita’s main partner when she works with the Regional Preternatural Investigation Squad, though most people call it the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team, so they can use the acronym, RPIT, for the Rest in Peace Team.
Question: When will we see his entire family on stage?

Answer: “Dancing” is an e-special short story where we finally got to see one of the police barbecues at Zerbrowski’s house.
Secrets to share: I’d been wanting to see Zerbrowski, his wife Katie, and their kids on stage in a major way for years, but there never seemed to be enough time in one of the main books. “Dancing” exists because I wanted to see him at home. I wanted to meet his kids, not just talk about them off stage. Zerbrowski and Katie stand up to any of the police, or their spouses, that are unhappy with Anita taking Micah and Nathaniel as her dates. They bring along four-year-old Matthew who they are babysitting. Seeing Anita dealing with a child at an event with a bunch of other children and parents was very fun.
Question: When will we see Zerbrowski in a major roll in one of the books again?

Answer: Dead Ice has Zerbrowski back at Anita’s side helping her track rogue zombies and evil necromancers.
Sneak Peek from Dead Ice:
Zerbrowski made a face. “I bet. Nothing like coming to put flowers on Grandma’s grave and discovering she’s been scattered all over the place like dog food.”

  2. He’s one of my favourite people. I just love this scruffy, loyal and trustworthy guy.

    1. I’ve never heard anyone that has actually read it say anything bad about. I bought it, read it and LOVED it. I loved getting a glimpse into Zerbrowski’s home life and to see him stand up to his fellow Officers to defend Anita’s lifestyle.

    2. Dead ice was a very good book! Lots of inner workings of different animal groups, marriage prep the vampire way, police/FBI case to investigate and solve and interpersonal problems to be worked out. I liked it a lot. Now that I’ve speeded through, I can’t help but wonder the most asked question, “When will the NEXT book be published?”

  3. Zerbrowski rocks! My favorite cop! I loved Dancing! It was fun seeing Anita in a “family” setting. Even there, at his own home, Zerbrowski had Anita’s back. Loved it, even without any murder or mayhem! I didn’t realize Zerbrowski wore glasses though. How did I miss that? Thank you for sharing this!

  4. Zebrowski, Edward, and Jason are about the only characters who can tell Anita hard truths without severe consequences. I don’t think there’s anyone in my life who can do that without getting a very angry middle finger shoved in their face. Everybody needs a Zebrowski, Edward, or Jason. I think that’s why I like them so much. Weird thought: I just pictured Z and Jason on stage doing comedy with Edward as the straight man. OUCH! I think I just hurt myself!

  5. I’m just curious as to why none of Anita’s enemies have ever targeted her father and his second family? They’ve gone after her men, their families and Edward and his family (although not quite his family at the time), so why not target them?

    1. I’ve thought that too. I’ve also thought about mixing wereanimals more with the local SWAT or the marshals. One of the possible answers that I came up with was because the series and plotlines for each book are too complex. Not saying that some things won’t happen in Anita’s world, just that they haven’t yet because there hasn’t been room for them in the plotlines. If everything that we can think of had already happened would that leave room for future Anita stories?

So many bad guys yet to play with, so many relationships not yet fully envisioned or tanked, so many characters that we glimpse and then never see again. There’s just so much room to play!!!

  6. I love Zebrowski and an so glad to know we’ll be seeing more of him!

  7. This is a bit off-topic, but I was reminded by the image chosen to represent Zerbrowski, so I wanted to share for kicks. Before I picked up the graphic novel, I always imagined Dolph was black. I think in one of the books, I remember reading over something that made me think – “huh, is he white?” But I just always pictured him black for some reason and when I reread earlier books, sometimes that sticks with me. Either way, it doesn’t really make a difference, he was still cool up until he started picking at Anita’s relationships. >.<
