Going Home
By the time you read this Jon and I will be back home in the States. I’ve been posting blogs as if we were still back home, because we came to Great Britain for my new British Publisher: Headline. They gave us a very warm welcome. I’ll post more about that later, but we weren’t doing any public events, so I didn’t want to get your hopes up, and I also didn’t want you guys to play spot the Laurell, or the Jonathon. Generally if we are too outside the normal geographic area you don’t recognize us. So, sorry if any of the British readers spotted us, then convinced themselves it couldn’t be us. If anyone did see us and didn’t out us on the internet; thank you. We did quite a bit of business, some research, and touristy stuff. We learned quite a bit on this trip that will help any other trips to London go more smoothly. Like Jon is allergic to mold. We did know that, but what we failed to take into account is that he’s allergic to the mold that is particular to older buildings. London is an old city. Last time we were in England we did a lot of day and weekend trips into the countryside, this trip we did not. Jon and his sinuses felt the difference in a very not happy way. Next time; more countryside. In the following days I’m either going to post the blogs about the England trip, or intersperse them with blogs about getting home. I haven’t decided yet. It may depend on how interesting the everyday blogs are once we get back into the routine. Also, do you guys really need the blog about the day we leave where it’s pretty much, OMG, I’m about to get on a plane. Anyone who reads the blogs knows I’m afraid of flying, so do I really need to panic all over again? I think the first blog about the trip will be about flying for eight hours. I’m getting pretty good at shorter flights, but transatlantic is more of challenging to my phobia.
Jon and I are really looking forward to getting home to Trinity and the rest of our family. Even London is not as fun without the kiddo. But it was a business trip, and we were supposed to be enjoying being all grown-up and on our own. Perhaps if we’d had Charles with us we would have done more adult stuff (he does seem to have a real talent for finding fun anywhere he goes), and we did do some things that Trin would have found boring, or we would have found inappropriate for her, but generally, most of our highlights would have been safe for her. We did some shopping that was grown-ups only, and more drinking than we do at home, which wouldn’t have happened with our daughter in tow. Though, pubs here allow children in, and many have children’s menus. A pint after work, or at the end of a evening’s outing is just normal here. There were a few other events that were not family oriented, but the highlights that I’ll blog about here are going to be heavily divided between business and perfectly child-safe things. Admittedly, there were moments that were nice couple moments like an extended date week, but we found ourselves missing both our family and our routine. We like our work, and workaholic that I am, after a time I feel uneasy if I’m not making pages. We saw a puppy in the pub today that reminded us of Pippin, and I felt quite homesick. So, tomorrow we go home, and even eight hours on a plane cannot take away the feeling of eagerness. We miss our kid, our family, friends, dogs, and just waking up in our own bed. Heck, we miss our stuff. For Jon and I familiarity does not breed contempt, but contentment.
