Happy New Year’s Day!
Happy New Year everyone! We kept our usual new year tradtions. The first bird, or animal, you see will be your totem theme for the year. It’s actually not a Wiccan tradition, but a bird watching one. Bird watchers will fly to exotic places so that their year’s first bird will be something spiffy and unusual, but funny how the tradition travels so well to our religion. For example if your first bird is a Starling, your year might be lessons on socialization and group dynamics, for good, or ill. Starlings are very social birds that almost always travel in flocks. A falcon is about striking while opportunity is hot, and giving it your all when opportunity knocks, no holding back. Some falcons strike so hard that their prey is killed by the blow, not the talons. See, that sort of thing. The best books for interpretation of animal totems are Ted Andrews ANIMAL- SPEAK and ANIMAL-WISE. There are others, but those are our two favorites. But go beyond that, research some biology about the bird, or animal. For birds, I’m very fond of the Cornell site on line.
My ex was able to pick up Trinity at about noon today, so she got extra time with her dad on one of his few days off. This also meant that Jon and I got some alone time, which was very, very nice. Afterwards, I did the other tradition that has become standard for Winter holiday break. I went to work. I got twenty-two pages done. Cool, but I must say that I’d really love to not be on some insane deadline during the Winter holidays next year. Just once, I’d like to have some time off while the kiddo had time off. I think we’re on our third year in a row where I’ve had to work her entire Winter Solstice break.
From both of us, to all of you, may 2009 be more prosperous, full of even more happiness, and many blessings for, and from, family and friends. Be safe, be well, and see you in the new year.
