Happy Thanksgiving

Nov 27, 2008

Ok, its Thanksgiving night now, and we’ve just gotten back from being at my parent’s house. We had the traditional Turkey and dressing, (though there is a religious difference on that. Some of those heathens like dressing with out raisins.) as well as baked Sweet Potatoes (no marshmallows!),  Rolls, Cranberry Sauce (Fresh made, not canned) and Turkey Gravy. Afterwards was a selection of pies, Pumpkin, Strawberry-Rhubarb, and for myself and my cousin Tom, Lemon. The Lemon pie didn’t set up quite right, but that didn’t bother either of us, we just asked for a serving spoon, and dug in.

Afterwards was fun stories and bits of family history, shared with friends who hadn’t heard all the stories and family that hadn’t been aware of what’s new. Tales of Politics, Travel, Work, Hobbies, People we’ve met, Things you didn’t know. All topics, nothing held back, except when younger ears were too close for some of the language. There was the traditional phone call to the family that couldn’t make it to dinner, and catching up with them, and no television. There were billards instead and they were before the meal. I had a relaxing time visiting with my family and my friends and Laurell did too. She likes my family, and they think she’s great. And not because of her success, but because of who she is as a person, and how that person makes me feel.

I’m going to steal some words from my step-dad, who gave the blessing over the meal. "Let us give thanks for our Country, our Family and Friends, this Food, and the Time we spend with those we Love." I know that there are those out there that haven’t had as good a time as I’ve had today. I know that some of them weren’t able to be with people they care about. I wish them the best Thanksgiving they can have, and the hope that, perhaps by next year, they can have a Thanksgiving as satisfying as I did today.

Now I’m off to sleep away the tryptophan
