Piles of Snakes
If you are phobic of snakes, please skip this blog. Trust me, you don’t want to see any of this. Now that I’ve warned all of you who suffer from ophidiophobia, here’s a recent video from Florida. Thanks to Ken Harris for bringing it to our attention. None of what you are about to see is my fault, even if my next novel Serpentine has a lot of snake Lycanthropes in it, and a few do change into a wriggling mass of snakes, and the book is set in Florida, this is still not my fault.
Video shows den of snakes slithering from tree in Oviedo
It would be disturbing if it was a tree in my own yard, but I had a Crocodile Dundee moment. “That’s not a pile of snakes, this is a pile of snakes.”

I just have to say I live in Florida & ITS not the snakes you have to worry about its the people lol
I have to absolutely agree with you in general. I personally loathe the vast majority of humans. But all of the escaped – and released – feral foreign snakes are ABSOLUTELY a problem in Florida. They are dangerously upsetting the ecosystem in Florida, especially in the Everglades.
I love snakes they keep the rodent population down & anything that kills mice & rats in my book is a keeper but as far as the python problem that they have down in Florida if they want to get rid of them they should figure out a way to put them on the menu as that will make sure that the damn things stop decimating the native population of birds & other species in the area. Rattlesnake is supposed to be good eating why not python or boas. I think it would be worth a try in order to get rid of the menace that these snakes pose to native wildlife.
This little Indiana farm girl LOVED her snakes, salamanders, frogs, etc. (and still does). My brother and I turned every one of our deep-welled basement windows into a terrarium for all of our snakes and such. Of course, they weren’t deep enough to keep most of the critters from escaping, but that was alright because it meant we had the fun of catching new ones to put in them. We were both furious with our mom when she bought covers for the window wells. We’re still convinced she did it just to stop us from using them as terrariums. She wasn’t NEARLY as thrilled as we were with our “hobby”.
Love the second video. Garter snakes are awesome. Planet Earth 2 has really great footage of snakes on one of the islands in the Galapagos. They are hunting baby iguanas as they emerge from the sand. Really intense sequence.
I have to agree with Crocodile Dundee. That little bitty pile of snakes was about a third the size of the one I found in my tulips a few years ago. Now that was a pile of snakes! BTW way, I live in Michigan. 😀
Eagerly awaiting the next book!
Love snakes but I respect the hell out of them too. Best one was a baby Childrens python that made it’s home in a bookshelf, for years as she grew bigger she always found her way home when we moved that bookshelf. Can’t wait to read Serpentine.
