Spike

May 22, 2018

A lot of you have asked me to talk more about Spike and Genevieve, the other half of our fourple. (Actually the term fourple was coined in a conversation with one of Jonathon’s and my ex-boyfriends when we were sharing what was new in our personal lives. Thanks, Nocturne!) You’ve asked for pictures, and more information in general. I spoke in a live Q & A on the fact that they both want to maintain their privacy. They are not famous, I am. I am the public figure, not them, and they want to keep it that way. If I’d known then, what I know now, I might not have dragged my husband, Jonathon, into so much of the spotlight. But with Genevieve and Spike I had another chance to discuss and plan things, so they both opted to be behind the scenes and private. I respect that and I hope that you do, as well. Many of you have been very supportive of it, and for those who have been so positive and understanding I came up with a way to give you more information about Spike that he approved.

What is Spike like? He’s as if Edward and Micah had a bastard child and somehow Nicky got involved. Does that explain the picture at the beginning of this blog to you? Edward and Anita on the cover of First Death, the comic that Jonathon and I wrote together as a prequel to my novel, Guilty Pleasures. I kept trying to turn it into a novel and Jonathon made sure it stayed a comic book. The cover art is by the wonderful Brett Booth. The standalone short novel, Micah, seemed appropriate to represent him. It is a lovely cover, though Micah is definitely not a blonde. Since we have no visuals of Nicky I chose two books that I used when I was first researching my werelion society and interactions. The Lions of Savuti HUNTING DOWN THE MOON text by Dereck Joubert and photographs by Beverly Joubert is a fabulous visual and informational feast. It’s from the National Geographic Society so I knew it was a good place to start some serious research. It’s also where I began to get ideas for the werehyenas in my books. The Art of Being a Lion by Christine and Michel Denis-Hout is another good one. This book was part of the inspiration for Anita’s fight with Haven, alias Cookie Monster. I’m very visual so sometimes I’ll just go back and look at images of the real animals when I’m trying to get in the headspace for my shapeshifters. These two are very good for lions and the first one, for the hyenas, as well. I have several shelves of natural history books about the real world animals that I write about. If you want a convincing “monster” start with as much reality as you can find and use it as your stepping stone into fiction.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing, so many things about your life. Spike and Genevieve deserve their privacy. I think people are more curios about the type of people you love, that also love you, and in how a successful fourple works. Sometimes i wish i were a bit younger and a lot more courageous and I might explore multiple relationships at once. But im old and set in my ways and i love my husband dearly. But more people to shate the highs and lows and pressures of life sounds really good sometimes. But I stray, we want to know you through the people who love you without intruding on the privacy they prefer. Maybe they coukd tell us how they see you and the family you all are without revealing too much of themselves.

  2. I have the most interesting vision in my head now of Spike! Thank you for sharing their wishes – it gives me a better view of a fourple in action. Love your writing and character development. I read “Narcissus in Chains” first and loved it so much that I had to make my way through Anita’s entire story! Love from a fan in Wisconsin!

  3. Ms Hamilton thank you for responding interest in your private life. Not being one the one’s so bold to ask I do have an insatiable curiosity. Also I am 51 and feel I would love and live the type of Lifestyle you’re experiencing quite well. Finding such openness at this time seems difficult but I still have hopes. However my closest friends are aghast at the idea. And my family, well… I’m sure you can imagine when I say it’s not a positive thing from them. Add to that I’m quite choosy. But it’s nice to know it works for someone, four someone’s, At least.
I love how the AB series has progressed and the characters have grown. I’ve been reading AB since the first book, and while I have my favorites I appreciate every book, the creativity and the work you put into them. I for one appreciate that the majority of the sex scenes have pillow talk and progress the storyline or the emotional relationships. It seems not everybody notices that. Good luck, light and love to you and yours, safe travel always.

  4. I can respect their privacy and yours as well. And I want to thank you for opening up the door to your life and letting us all have a peak. Gosh I bet spending a weekend with you would be just asking questions about the books and the animals and I bet you have a wicked sense of humor. And spending the weekend playing cards would really be a fun thing to do. But NO animal trivia with you, You would dust us all in it. lol

  5. Completely understand Spike and Genevieve request as a person in a Quad relationship myself I understand how they feel as well as your love and pride in them for loving you even if it means some things are harder on them.

  6. Personally I could care less about author’s personal lives. I’m only interested in the books.

To be honest you could stop all the personal posts (poly, excercise, inspirational quotes, relationship, etc), spend that time writing the next novel instead, and I’d prefer it. It would mean that I wouldn’t have to wait 2 years for the next novel.

  7. Understandable. My own goals in life include never being famous. Lucky for me though, I don’t have to associate with famous people. Edward and Nicky, huh. Two of my favorite characters. That’s cool. Well Micah too, but not as much as the other two.

  8. I’m shocked more people haven’t responded to this. You and your books were my introduction to alternative lifestyles. Where Merry just starts off having multiple partners right away because how she grew up Anita has grown into the woman she is and with her transformation I began being more open to people who walk a different path than I. So much so that I’m now the mono to a poly partner. Watching you and Anita help me through my issues you are truly an inspiration to me.
