The Day in Brief
Seven pages of SKIN TRADE. The Laughing Corpse – comic: roughs, wips (works in progress), colors, revisions. Writing group meeting. Jon is making wonderful progress with his physical therapy. I’m the cover story of the River Front Times, our local entertainment magazine. My face in a close-up on the cover, and that be all. I have to say a little weird to see me staring back at me. It’s a lovely picture, though. The mask I’m wearing is ours, something I got out when the photographer wanted some props. Had a friend coming into to town this weekend, but had to cancel, so just Jon and me for the weekend. I think we’ll find things to amuse ourselves. Had tickets last weekend to see SWEENEY TODD, but Trinity wasn’t feeling well, so had to stay home with the kiddo. Thought we had a lead on a rescue pug, but it looks like it’s not going to work out. I promised myself if this dog isn’t the one, that we’re going to wait to add to our pack until after the first of the year.
Tomorrow Anita gets to leave the vampires and metaphysics behind to rejoin Edward and the police for a raid on a suspect’s house. I guess raid isn’t the right word, but for the life of me I can’t think of another one. Is it raid? I really don’t think so, maybe after a little sleep I’ll think of the right phrase. Been calling my friend, Shawn, asking him police questions this week. It seems like no matter how much research you do, there’s always something that comes up that you hadn’t thought to ask, or find out. Somethings can be left a little uncertain until next draft, but some things are so pivotal to the plot that you need to be certain that the police procedural is right the first time. Because if it absolutely won’t work the way I’m writing it, I’d rather throw it out and do it right the first time, rather than find out later and have some major rewrite. I’m always willing to throw out a plot point if research shows me that it doesn’t work that way, but I’d rather know sooner than later.
